Yogi Bhajan – The Master of Kundalini Yoga
Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji, better known as Yogi Bhajan, was born in India in 1929.
In the year 1969 he moved to America to teach the powerful techniques of Kundalini Yoga. He touched the hearts and opened the minds of people from all walks of life.
Yogi Bhajan had a unique ability to perceive and understand the needs of people in our modern times, and has left behind a diverse selection of techniques and knowledge of how to live a life in balance. Before he came to America, Kundalini Yoga had only been taught in secret, from master to disciple, but Yoga Bhajan understood that the time was right to break the old code of secrecy.
Yoga Bhajan not only thought us physical exercises and meditations, he also thought us how to relate to our own truth and to each other. How to communicate consciously and effectively, and how to live life. His teachings include everything from psychology and humanology to cooking.
Medicinal Yoga, which has become quite popular here in Scandinavia, has its roots in Kundalini Yoga. “MediYoga” is a collection of scientifically proven Kundalini Yoga techniques, and is good evidence that Yoga Bhajan was ahead of his time and knew about the powerful and medicinal effects of Kundalini Yoga both on body and mind.
Yogi Bhajan's motto was "It's not the life that matters, it's the courage that you bring to it." His bottom line, printed on the back of his calling card: "If you can't see God in all, you can't see God at all." And Yogi Bhajan lived after both sayings as a good example.
To include his doctrine and support the international community, he established 3HO “Healthy, Happy, Holy- Organization”, based on his first principle “Happiness is your birthright”. Through the Aquarian Teacher Program, Yoga Bhajan has educated thousands of KRI Certified teachers. In 1994, he established the International Kundalini Yoga teacher Association (IKYTA) to be able to continue to spread his teachings, and the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) to keep his teachings, which he knew were ahead of his time.
Yoga Bhajan`s will was to make human beings independent and able to master their own lives, and he said “I have come to create teachers, not to gather disciples.”
